Deputy Assistant Secretary Bryza Shows U.S. Support for Ongoing Negotiations
Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Matthew J. Bryza held a press conference on June 30, 2009 at the J.W. Fulbright Center in the UN Buffer Zone after meetings with President Demetris Christofias and Turkish-Cypriot Leader Mehmet Ali Talat, as well as UN officials and other leaders from both the Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot communities. Mr. Bryza reiterated that the primary focus of the U.S. in Cyprus is to support the negotiations between the two parties with the goal of reaching a settlement that reunifies the island into a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation. Ambassador Urbancic Discusses Cyprus Problem with Greek-American Students
U.S. Ambassador Frank C. Urbancic, Jr. sat down to talk with nine Greek-American honors students on a foreign-policy study trip sponsored by the American Hellenic Institute (AHI) about the Cyprus problem and other issues. The students were accompanied by AHI Executive Director Nick Larigakis. The students, who were selected from universities all over the United States, were extremely engaged and expressed a deep commitment to the effort to reunify Cyprus. [more]

Urbancic, Jr. illustrated the truth of the proverb “Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” Ambassador Urbancic shared this quote, by the great American educator and philosopher John Dewey, during the 100th commencement ceremony of the American Academy in Larnaca on June 26, 2009.
