June 18-20 , 2008

Basketball clinics were also held with assistance of Peace Players InternationalOn June 18-20, the U.S. Embassy conducted an English Language Summer Camp at Near East University (NEU). More than 60 students took part in activities both inside and outside of the classroom including improv, music, dance, basketball, “kickball,” and “ultimate frisbee.” Basketball clinics were also held with assistance of Peace Players International. U.S. English language specialist David Malatesta prepared the teachers by giving workshops on the latest trends in “Making English Language Instruction Fun.” This camp was part of the ongoing English Access Microscholarship Program, which began in Cyprus with an afterschool program in February 2008. The program offers children the opportunity to learn English, as well as about American culture and values.
