U.S. Embassy and European Parliamentarians Meet with Bicommunal Leaders

On March 5, Juliette Dickstein, Coordinator of Embassy Nicosia’s Bicommunal Support Program took part in a round table discussion on bicommunal activities in Cyprus with members of the European Parliament and civil society representatives in Cyprus. Organized by the European Parliament’s High-Level Contact group for Relations with the Turkish Cypriot Community, discussion focused primarily on environmental concerns, cultural heritage and youth activities. The purpose of the round table was to solicit ideas from the NGOs in the audience for continued support with a view to bolstering reconciliation activities through bicommunal projects. Acknowledgment on the part of the NGOs and MEPs was made of the value of the U.S. government’s financial assistance to Cyprus throughout the years.
