President Barack Obama called on U.S. embassies worldwide to observe a National Day of Service and Remembrance in honor of the victims of the terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001. Heeding this call to service, ten employees of the U.S. Embassy in Nicosia bravely rolled up their sleeves and donated blood at the Engomi Health Center in Nicosia. Through this donation, organized by Embassy Nurse Barbara Joannides, the U.S. Embassy community helped commemorate the men, women, and children who tragically lost their lives on September 11th by responding to the urgent need for blood at area hospitals.
