During a series of seminars in Nicosia and Limassol from May 27-28, 2009, renowned Harvard University Professor of Psychology Howard Gardner engaged in a lively discussion with Minister of Education Andreas Demetriou – also a developmental psychologist – on subjects ranging from the nature of the human mind to their shared view that educators must prepare the next generation to overcome inter-group conflicts.

The events provided an opportunity for over 900 educators to hear the two scholars discuss their differing theories of intelligence and their shared views on the importance of making “the nurturing of respectful and ethical minds” a primary focus of education.

Attended by more than 900 educators and psychologists, the programs were sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in cooperation with the Government of Cyprus and a number of other public and private entities.
