Twenty-four students from Mary Baldwin College, an all-women’s college in Staunton, Virginia, visited the U.S. Embassy in Nicosia on Thursday, May 7, 2009. The visiting U.S. students are taking a course in Multicultural Psychology led by Professors Andreas Anastasiou, John Kibler and Dr. Alice Araujo. During their visit, the students attended briefings given by different Embassy sections, including Consular, Political, USAID, and Public Affairs.
U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus Frank C. Urbancic Jr. welcomed the group and talked to them about his experiences as a Rotary Scholar in France, when he had the opportunity to interact with other cultures, and how such experiences influenced his diplomatic career. The group was also briefed by Deputy Chief of Mission Jonathan Cohen and other Foreign Service Officers before they took the opportunity to discuss a variety of issues including careers in the Foreign Service, politics in the Mediterranean region, interactions between the two main communities in Cyprus, and the Embassy’s mission. The group’s leader described their visit and briefing at the Embassy as one of the highlights of their visit to Cyprus. |
