Joining the Rector of the University of Cyprus as part of the opening plenary session, Cornell University’s Stuart Hart and Clemson University’s Aleda Roth kicked off a two-day conference on “Business Sustainability: Crossing Disciplines, Sectors and Levels” in Nicosia on May 28. The third conference in the Group on Organizations and the Natural Environment (GRONEN) series brought together experts in different fields from over ten countries and focused on topics related to sustainable management, including eco-preneurship, “green” investments, corporate sustainability, and the diffusion of sustainability practices.
Through a small grant, the USAID-funded Supporting Activities that Value the Environment (SAVE) program co-sponsored the event along with Hellenic Bank, the Cyprus Tourism Organization, the Municipality of Nicosia, and Green Dot Cyprus. SAVE small grants support activities that protect and promote the island’s natural and cultural heritage resources. Like all U.S.-funded programs in Cyprus, SAVE is aimed at facilitating reunification of the island, including through encouraging sound environmental management, responsible business practices and local initiative.
