Images of the Future

Camp encounters provide unique opportunities for youth from both sides of Cyprus’ dividing Green Line to come together and, often, meet someone from the ‘other’ side for the first time. Altogether too rare, these experiences can be profound and often life-changing. Indeed, the multicultural camps of today might provide blueprints for a better society—a better Cyprus—tomorrow. At the very least, they provide opportunities for contact between the youth who share an island and the responsibility for its future.

The newly released documentary, Images of the Future, records the camp experience for others to witness and share. In it, filmmaker Chrystalla Avgoustis seeks to present the camps as they are—without exaggeration and without any attempt to beautify or glorify them. The film captures the campers’ experiences, their concerns, their thoughts and their reflections. It provides an insightful view into the camps as well as into the lives of the Cypriots involved.

Images of the Future was made possible with support from the USAID-funded United Nations Development Program—Action for Cooperation and Trust program. It was produced by Tetraktys Films. Copies of the documentary and more information are available from http://www.undp-act.org.
