U.S. Embassy Flatly Denies that U.S. Citizens have been Warned not to Travel to Cyprus

Statement by U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Officer Craig Kuehl

The U.S. Embassy flatly denies today's press reports that it has warned U.S. citizens not to travel to Cyprus.    The only travel warnings issued by the U.S. State Department relevant to Cyprus are worldwide cautions, not specifically directed at Cyprus.  There are indeed specific warnings concerning other countries, but Cyprus is not among them.  While there is no information to indicate a specific threat to U.S. interests on the island, travelers to Cyprus should exercise the same precautions they would exercise when traveling elsewhere in times of conflict.
