U.S. Embassy Statement on the Outcome
of Mr. Gambari's Meetings in Cyprus

We welcome the outcome of the meetings with Undersecretary General Ibrahim Gambari. This is a positive development to move forward to solve the Cyprus issue. We are looking forward to the start of talks at the end of the month, as agreed by the leaders, on both every day and substantive issues, and confidence building measures. We hope that the agreed formula will set the stage for comprehensive negotiations on the Cyprus issue. As always, we stand ready to assist the UN and the two sides in this important effort.
