Back by popular demand, James Thomas Bailey returned to Cyprus for a second visit and conducted 17 separate improv workshops for almost 1,200 people of all ages during his 12-day visit to Cyprus. Mr. Bailey is an expert in improvisation and theatre education who has led the ComedySportz improvisational theatre company in Los Angeles for more than 20 years.

During his workshops in theatres and schools across the Republic of Cyprus, co-sponsored and organized by the Cyprus Theatre Organization ("THOK"), students and teachers learned how to listen attentively, adapt to unforeseen circumstances, communicate clearly, work as a group, and create new works through active collaboration. As one young participant noted, such skills are useful not only on stage, but in everyday life. In addition to workshops in Nicosia, Paphos, Limassol, Kyrenia and Paralimni, Mr. Bailey also conducted a bicommunal acting workshop on May 14, 2009 for professional actors and drama students. Over forty actors from the Turkish-Cypriot Municipal Theater Youth Group and the Greek-Cypriot Vladimiros Kafkarides Drama School worked together through interactive theatre exercises and games, with the help of skilled translators speaking English, Greek and Turkish. The bicommunal event was covered by the press and is part of the Embassy's ongoing effort to facilitate reunification of the island by fostering dialogue between people with shared interests and goals.
